![]() I learned how Naryati could magically turn a part of Slippery Stone into fi ve open-air cooking stations. It was eye-opening and highly insightful. I love food and eating always makes me happy, but discussing the art of food creation with experts in the fi eld was something else. It was quite a mesmerising experience for me to spend almost an hour together with them in the judging room tasting 20 dishes cooked by fi ve of Bali’s most prominent chefs. I’d like to thank Allen Stevano of the new Mantra Nusa Dua for helping us a lot throughout the contest, and other fellow judges: Darren Lauder, Diego Martinelli and Andik Kurniawan. But we could only choose one winner and Maurizio’s overall performance – including his super clean and hygienic cooking station – was the best. The other fi nalists – Christopher Smith, Luis Varela Mata, Vittorio Negri and Arief Wicaksono – all competed well and gave Maurizio a good run. I’d like to congratulate Maurizio Bombini of Bulgari Resort Bali’s Il Restorante, who came out as the victor. My only regret was that I could not eat everything the brilliant chefs cooked that day. It was one of the most fun Sundays I’ve ever had in Bali. ![]() I’m really glad we decided to turn the final round of our yearly Chef Wars into a live cook-off. ![]()
